Water Tank Project - We have partnered with an organization called Imaginin Guatemala, www.https://www.imagininguatemala.org, to build water tanks for poor families in the village of San Lorenzo El Tejar, Guatemala, which is near the larger city of Antigua. IG's primary activity is building homes for the families they serve. IG partners with Benedictine University and other schools around the Midwest to bring volunteers down to Guatemala for this effort.
These families do not have access to clean water supplies other than a government water truck that comes through town once a week. They are forced to store water in buckets and other unsanitary containers for drinking, washing and cooking. The water tanks that we've funded provide a clean sanitary way to store water in order to prevent disease, particularly for the children there who need to stay healthy enough to get to school each day.
To date, we have raised and spent almost $40,000 to build 32 tanks. You can download a presentation deck here that contains more details on the project along with photos. We would like to do a second round of tanks. We have $10,000 to allocate to another round. If we can raise another $5,000 from nearby Rotary clubs, then we can get a matching grant from the District for $15,000 and an even bigger grant from RI in the amount of $22,500. So we can turn $15K into $52,500 which would pay for another +/-40 tanks.
